Our opening sequence so far...

This is our first edit of what we have filmed and edited so far for our opening sequence. This is 45 seconds that we have complete. We still have things that we need to put in to this scene but this is just our rough cut of what we have done so far. We have been working on it during lesson time and it has been going really well, we feel that our opening sequence is going to turn out exactly how we planned. We would appreciate and take in to account any comments that you have on this first rough cut of our opening sequence, thank you.

Music/sound for our film

For our opening sequence, Maddie Chloe and I have now decided on what music/sound we are going to use. For the first part of our opening sequence, we have recorded a radio station commentary. We did this so it could be playing throughout the 15 seconds of the two main characters driving down the road. This will then make the audience feel involved by them listening to what the two main characters can hear in the car. And then for the next part of the scene we have no diegetic sound, but we are going to have some non-diegetic sound. We want this sound to make the audience feel like something is going to happen, to build a bit of tension and to make things look and feel suspicious. We looked on some suggested copyright free sites but we didn't find anything that matched what we wanted. So at home my dad has a music programme on his laptop that plays around with different sounds and effects, and he kindly helped us in producing a non-diegetic, creepy sound. It's a simple sound but it conforms to the atmosphere that we want to create. And then in the last part of our opening sequence, we have the diegetic sound of the tv and of the two main characters watching it.

Analysis of our first filming session

Maddie, Chloe and I had our first filming session on Tuesday 9th February. We had planned to shoot the first sheet of our filming schedule sheets, but we finished filming the first and third sheet, which was a great success. During filming we found that our storyboard helped us a great deal with framing and timing the shots. We filmed a few extra shots that are not on our storyboard, we did this because we wanted a variety of shots to chose from during editing our opening sequence. We currently have 13 minutes of film, but a few of them are outtakes or things that went wrong! This included long shots, mid shots, close ups, over-the-shoulder shots, two shots, panning, etc. We feel that we achieved our goals during our first filming session by filming a selection of different shots. We are now editing it all together during lesson and hoping that it looks good and appealing to our target audience. Here are some stills from the filming session:

Our casting shots

These are our casting shots of the three main characters in our opening sequence. The first shot is of Maddie; an innocent girlfriend. The second shot is of Justin; a mysterious boyfriend hiding something. And the third shot is of Millie; a young and vunerable girl.

Dialogue

This is our script for our opening sequence. We have written next to each phrase which shot its in, this will help us relate it to the storyboard during filming. Since we have started filming and editing our opening sequence, we have changed a few things on this dialogue script. We have cut out some of the dialogue because we didn't want the film to look or sound 'cheesy' like some horror films do, so instead we have put a non-diegetic, scary music/sound for some of our opening sequence. We feel that this will build more tension and will keep the audience watching.
